Alion is searching for a Lead Technical Engineer to join our team in Huntsville, Alabama to provide technical expertise and leadership on a project at the US Army, Program Executive Office (PEO) for Aviation, Program Management Office (PMO) who is responsible for planning, managing, coordinating, and executing a comprehensive system safety program for rotorcraft platform system.
This position requires both a tactical understanding of the capability being development and integration as well as the technical acumen in aviation equipment, production methods, development processes, and support methodologies. The position requires demonstrated leadership skills with a proven track-record of meeting objectives and satisfying customer requirements.
Working alongside the Program Manager, the technical lead will require skills as a proven leader in strategic thought, appropriate analysis, well-prepared contributions, and sound, timely engineering decision-making. Disciplined aptitude with novel thinking, and fresh ideas to technical challenges resulting in creative and competitive solutions.
Candidates should be familiar with Army early acquisition programs like the future long-range assault aircraft, short-range reconnaissance, the improved turbine engine program, the assured position navigation and time effort and the attack helicopter. Plans and coordinates activities concerned with investigating and resolving customers' reports of technical problems with aircraft or aerospace vehicles. Evaluates new technologies for application in improving design of aerospace systems. Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates testing of aerospace systems. Performs risk assessment of aerospace systems and generates risk mitigation plans and strategies.
Also, a knowledgeable candidate would also be familiar with the Army independent system safety hazard assessments, identifying risks and the plan to minimize or mitigate them, family of systems, system of systems, and open architectures that enable affordable and rapid fielding of new family of helicopters that will mark a generational turning point in the future of rotary wing aircraft. The candidate will be required to help evaluate impacts of subsystem and component modifications on the system safety of a platform, ensuring safety hazards associated with a modification are identified, assessed, and eliminated or mitigated to the lowest possible level. This would include understanding new missions or combat emerging threats. Candidates should be familiar system safety programs that utilize the following: AR 385-10, DA PAM 385-16, MIL-STD-882E, SAE ARP4754, and SAE ARP4761.
The Lead Engineer will also be required to direct and coordinate activities of engineering or technical staff.
Basic Qualifications: This position requires an Engineering Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience.
Clearance – requires SECRET with the ability to have a TS/SCI
